Archery Tag?
What is Archery Tag?
Archery Tag is like dodgeball, except instead of using a ball, you try to defeat the other team with a bow and arrow.
The sport's inventor is John Jackson, an Australian owner of several bow-related companies. While working on a different product in 2011, he had the idea to equip arrows with padding – that's how Archery Tag was born. The basic idea of shooting arrows at each other without causing harm, however, is not new and comes from LARP (Live Action Roleplay). In addition to padded melee weapons, players wanted to use projectile weapons such as bows and crossbows. From the original designs, professional products were developed, which are now sold in countless LARP stores.
Archery Tag – Game Rules
There are different rules and variants that are continuously evolving, as with every new sport. Since we always adjust the rules (e.g., the size of teams can vary), we will explain just the basic principle:
The goal of the game is to score more points. The game ends as soon as a team has no players left on the field, one team manages to hit all the target points of the opposing team's goal, or the time runs out. Therefore, the team that wins does so by:
Defeating all the opponents,
Hitting all the points from the target disk,
Or having the most points after the time expires.
Archery Tag – Equipment
BOWS
Our composite bows are suitable for both right- and left-handed users. We’ve selected the draw weight so that even teenagers and girls can comfortably pull the bow for extended periods. This allows you to dodge arrows or even catch them! At the same time, you won’t need an arm guard. However, if you stand incorrectly, the bowstring may graze your forearm when shooting. This is uncomfortable, but in the worst case, it could result in a bruise. For this reason, we still recommend wearing an arm guard.
ARROWS
The only thing that matters more than fun is, of course, the safety of all players. Therefore, we only use arrows with original IDV safety tips. The development of these arrows prioritizes maximum safety (you can read more on the manufacturer’s website). The shafts are coated in plastic to prevent injury from protruding fiberglass fibers that can form if someone steps on an arrow and it breaks.
PROTECTIVE GEAR
Although our equipment is selected to ensure that you have nothing to fear except for possible bruises, there are still, as with any sport involving projectiles, the occasional (prohibited by the game rules!) head or face shots. Even though these rarely cause injury, they can be uncomfortable. Therefore, a face mask is mandatory! We offer arm guards, though they are optional.
ARCHERYTAG PLAYING FIELD
The Archerytag field is divided into three sections. There are two playing fields, each occupied by one team, and a "safe zone" in the middle between the two fields. At the start of each round, the bows and arrows are placed in the safe zone. Both teams start at the baseline of their respective playing fields. When the round begins, both teams run to the center to grab their bows and arrows and then move to their playing field. Each playing field contains several bubble balls (depending on the number of players) behind which players can take cover. At the boundary of the safe zone, there is also the target board for each team.
WHO IS ARCHERYTAG SUITABLE FOR?
Archerytag is a non-contact sport, so players of different ages, weights, and fitness levels can easily play together. We’ve chosen equipment that even teenagers can handle easily – it’s family-friendly! We recommend a minimum age of 13. The price is €15.00 per person.
